First attempt at Kronberg
For the whole week I planned a nice hike up to the Kronberg. I wanted to start in Gontenbad and hike up to Kronberg by lunch and then snowshoe to Schwägalp.
The last part I would only do if I really had enough time, the last bus from Schwägalp is at 17.30. My planning was based on this map and this site. According to the map there was no path up from Gonten and from Jakobsbad only a shared one with the sledge route. I really don’t fancy that. I mean the last part is a shared route anyway but that is in the open and not in the woods and probably a lot safer.
So that was my idea, be up the mountain by around 13.oo, eat something and then go and do the last part. And up to know I never had any problems with Winter hiking path, they where always marked as shown on the maps. But there has to be a first time for everything and for me it had to be yesterday.
The marked path was from Gontenbad to Jakobsbad, which in summer it is a barefoot path along a moor Chanel. So I was quite miffed that I had problems from the start. because of that I put on my snowshoes and when cross country until I reached Gonten and there I walked the Path up to Hütten and what the map doesn’t show is that from there you can walk to Scheidegg and Kronberg.
By the time I arrived Hütten I was tired and it was past lunch, there was a restaurant but no option to sit outside and eat something of your own. I had another 4 hours to go if I wanted to reach Kronberg before the last Gondola would go back to Jakobsbad, but I didn’t fancy any stress just to make it and I already felt a bit down, I decided do go back to Gonten and from there walk to Jakobsbad.
Next time the weather is better on a weekend I will try it again and this time I will start in Gonten.

Hiking in winter is not that different then in summer, just a bit colder and more slippery at times.

Absolutely beautiful!
