Sihlvalley

Sihl

New year new start, it has been a good start so far for me. On new years day I went hiking with my Godfather. Which was cool, as we never did that before.
The Hike up the Sihlvalley is a nice and easy one, it goes a bit up and down but nothing major. In the summer you can make a family day trip and go grilling along the many fireplaces along the Sihl river and go swimming.

The hike started and ended in Shilbrugg but, you can choose a different end destination if you wish. Our hike was a bit of a zig zag in crossing the river from one side to the other, and the only reason for that was, because at the beginning of the hike there was a “sing” that said a part of the path was closed and one specific bridge too. So my Godfather thought it would be best to cross at some point the river and go up the Sihl from the other side. But once we arrived said bridge we found out that it was open and not closed, it was a bit wierd but in the end we could hike all the way to where we indented from the beginning. At our turning point the Sihlvally opens up and you are in Shilmatt.
The Route:

From: Sihlbrugg to Sihlbrugg (info about the valley)
Distance: 13km UP: 212m Down: 241m
Walking Time: ca. 3h

How to get there by Public Transport:
The Station is a bit outside of town so you have to walk a bit along the road.
from Zurich HB: 1h 19min

  • I just love your photos. Nice. Just gotta ask, what camera are you using these days?

    • Thanks nice to know you enjoy them.
What camera for this trip and Matterhorn and some other day hikes I used the Canon EOS 500D with the standart lens that came with it, so nothing special. And in Scotland, Val Mora and Spain I used a smaler compact camera Canon Power Shot G12, it’s not as light as others but the lens is fantastic and it some of the programed options are great.
The G12 I usually use when I go on longer trips and it’s easier to take it out and take a picture and so on. With the EOS it’s either you have it out of the bag or not and it’s more of a hassle. But what makes some of the Photos great is the photo processing with Lightroom. I can send you more details per mail if you are interested.

I am shopping for a new camera. I dropped my Lumix Lx5 several times this summer. All the photos from the last 6 months on my site have been taken with the broken camera in -1/3 exposure on AUTO mode. :( Time to replace it. BTW: I agree with bigger cameras. It is such a hassle to get it out or have it hanging around your neck, so you just don’t take photos, which is a big bummer.
