Queen of the Mountains

So I was really lazy the last few weekends and I really wanted to do something last weekend. The destination for last Saturday’s trip was Rigi also known as Queen of the Mountains. It is located next Lake Zug and Lake Lucerne, also known as Vierwaldstättersee.

The Hike started at the Train station Arth-Goldau in Schwyz, from there you can follow the signs to the different destinations with an estimated time to get there.

As soon as you walk out of Arth and start the slow climb towards Rigi Kulm, you start see more of the alps in the south and the impressive east side of Rigi.

My first go to reach the top was this route here.

I walked for about 1km and then I encountered a gap that was prepared with tree trunks but to much rain/water created a little landslide and I didn’t dare to cross it, as it went really steep downhill. So my commonsense said nope and I turned around and went the other trail up to Rigi Kulm.

This was the route I did.

I can only recommend to Hike some part of the Rigi, the views of the Alps and Lakes below are just amazing. There is another route from Vitznau to Rigi Kulm, that I want to Hike this summer.

From Zurich HB to Arth-Goldau by train takes about 40-50 min depending on which Train you get. For Prices and timetable for the Rigi Bahn go to this page.

Thank you very much, I hope people will see more of Switzerland not just tourists visiting but the Swiss themselves. A lot don’t travel their own country. I didn’t and I hope I have more time in the futur… there is still so much to see :)
